A Grammar Checker for Windows That Works in Your Other Apps

If you want a grammar checker on Windows that works in every app and not only in a browser, you need a desktop app. Edyt is one. It checks each sentence as you finish it and underlines mistakes in the app you are typing in. Hover the underline to see the fix, then click to put it in place.

People compare these tools on how many mistakes they catch. That matters, but the bigger question is whether the check shows up where you actually write.

Edyt underlining mistakes as you type on Windows, with the fix one click away

What you get on Windows

  • Proofread as you type, in Slack, most browsers and many other apps.
  • One shortcut for everything else: Ctrl+Shift+Space opens the toolbar with Rewrite, Proofread, Alternatives, Explain, Translate and your own prompts.
  • Your own prompts on the card, so a sentence can be fixed in your tone.

There is more detail on the Windows page.

What it costs

Proofread as you type is free and does not use your actions. The free plan also has 30 actions a week, and better wording suggestions for your first week. Pro is $8 a month or $60 a year, with unlimited actions. The pricing page always has the current numbers.

The limits

A few apps do not share their text with other apps, so Edyt cannot check them as you type. In those, select the text and press Ctrl+Shift+H to proofread it instead.

It is best in English, Arabic and Persian. Other languages are checked too, but it misses more.

It needs Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, and there is no phone app. The installer is code-signed, but SmartScreen can still warn you about it. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

If you only write in a browser, the Edyt extension for Chrome may be all you need.

What happens to your text

Each sentence you finish goes to our servers and our AI provider to be checked. We keep none of it after the reply comes back, and it never trains AI. The security page explains this in more detail.

The easiest test is your next email. Type it the way you normally do and see what gets underlined.

Try it on your own writing.

Free to download. Free to use. No credit card required.
