Privacy Policy

The short version

Edyt is built to need as little of your data as possible. The text you select on your computer is processed the moment you act on it, then discarded. We never keep it, sell it, or use it to train AI models. The only content on our servers is what you save yourself, like your prompts.

What we collect

• Account info: your email address and basic profile details when you sign in.
• What you save: the prompts and categories you create are stored in your account so they sync across your devices. You can edit or delete them whenever you like.
• Payments: handled by Stripe. We see your plan and billing status, never your full card number.
• Support messages: anything you send us through the contact form.
• Product analytics: which pages you visit on this site and which features you use in the app. Before you sign in, this is tied to a random ID. After you sign in, it is linked to your account ID. Never your text.
• Crash reports: when something breaks, we get the technical error and your account ID, so we can look into it. No name, no email address.

The text you process

When you run a prompt on selected text, that text is sent over an encrypted connection to our AI provider, processed, and returned to you. It is not stored on our servers and is never used to train AI models.

Text detection happens on your device. Your keystrokes and screen contents never leave it. When you use screen reading, the picture of the area you drag is read on your device and never leaves it either. Only the text you choose to act on is sent for processing.

Screen reading and system permissions

On Mac, Edyt asks macOS for three permissions. Accessibility lets it see the text you select. Input Monitoring lets it notice your shortcut and drag gestures. Screen Recording powers screen reading. On Windows, Edyt needs no extra permissions.

Screen reading works on things that are not selectable text, like PDFs and pictures. When you drag over one, Edyt takes a single picture of just that area and reads the text from it on your device, using Apple's built-in text recognition on Mac and the built-in Windows OCR on Windows. The picture is processed in memory and never leaves your device. Edyt never records your screen, and never captures anything unless you drag.

Text recognized from a capture is treated like any other selection: it is sent for processing only when you run an action on it, is not stored on our servers, and is never used to train AI models.

Who we share data with

We only share data with the services that make Edyt work:

• AI provider: processes the text you act on, through an API that does not train on the data we send.
• Supabase: handles sign-in and stores your account.
• Stripe: processes payments securely.
• Resend: sends transactional email, like receipts and replies.
• PostHog: receives product analytics, linked to your account ID once you sign in. No email, no name, no text you write.
• Google Analytics: measures visits to this website.
• Sentry: receives crash reports, identified by your account ID and nothing else.

We never sell or rent your data, and we don't run ads.

Your choices

You can ask us to access or delete your account data at any time. Reach out and we’ll take care of it.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top of this page. Anything significant will be called out clearly.
